The Bloomington-Normal YMCA is dedicated to providing an inclusive and uplifting environment that exceeds the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act, specifically tailored to meet the needs of individuals facing mobility and sensory challenges.
Within the aquatic center, there are two distinct sections: a competitive pool and an ADA-accessible warm-water therapy pool.
While the competition pool features starting blocks and lane lines for active swimming, the therapy pool features a zero-depth entry, a splash pad, and a current river section designed to aid in personalized rehabilitation programs.
This pool has a variety of Spectrum Aquatics products, including Single Post Xcellerator Starting Blocks, Hard Starting Block Safety Covers, Mendota Lifeguard Chairs, Cisco Grab Rails, Stanchions Posts for Backstroke Flags, and Lane Lines.
Installed at this pool are 2 Motion Trek BP400 ADA Pool Chair Lifts, ADA-approved Custom Rolled Stainless Steel Access Ramp Rails, Cisco Grab Rails, Stainless Steel Stair Rails, and Custom-made Adjustable Underwater Parallel Bars.
Elevating inclusivity to new heights and surpassing ADA standards, Bloomington-Normal YMCA has recently introduced what they are calling "Sensory Swimming".
"At the YMCA, we understand that there are a multitude of reasons that public pools can be inaccessible to members of our community that go beyond simple water safety. As part of an effort to make our pools accessible to all, we'd like to invite our members to come participate in Sensory Swim!"
From design to the final installation, the Spectrum team works closely with designers, contractors, and distributors to ensure a seamless installation.
