How to Prevent Corrosion on Stainless Steel Pool Equipment

At Spectrum Aquatics, we design and manufacture stainless steel pool equipment to withstand the tough environments of aquatic facilities. While our stainless steel is highly resistant to rust and corrosion, it isn’t completely maintenance-free.

With the right care and a few preventative measures, you can protect your investment and extend the life of your equipment for years to come.

Why Does Stainless Steel Corrode?

Stainless steel resists corrosion due to its protective chromium-oxide layer. However, in aggressive environments, such as pools with high humidity and chlorine vapor, that layer can become damaged, leaving the metal vulnerable to staining or corrosion.

Regular maintenance is the key to keeping that protective layer intact and ensuring your equipment remains as strong and attractive as the day it was installed.

Tips for Preventing Corrosion

1. Rinse Regularly with Clean Water

The simplest and most effective step you can take is to rinse your stainless steel equipment with fresh, clean water. This removes chlorine and other chemicals that can attack the surface over time. Make it a habit to spray down ladders, rails, lifeguard chairs, and other equipment as part of your facility’s daily maintenance routine.

2. We Use Spectra-Shield™ for Extra Protection

For even greater protection, we have applied Spectra-Shield™, our proprietary protective coating. Spectra-Shield® forms an invisible barrier over the surface, helping to prevent pitting, discoloration, and damage from harsh pool chemicals.

Spectra-Shield® helps repel corrosive elements and reduces the need for maintenance.

3. Clean with Spectra-Clean™

When stains or deposits start to appear, use Spectra-Clean™, our specialized stainless steel cleaner and polish. It’s designed to safely remove grime, restore shine, and protect the surface without scratching or dulling it.

Spectra-Clean is an excellent choice for regular deep-cleaning or spot treatment between rinses.

Keep Your Stainless Steel Looking Its Best

A little attention goes a long way when it comes to caring for stainless steel. By combining regular rinsing with clean water and periodic cleaning with Spectra-Clean™, you can keep your equipment looking great and performing well, even in the most demanding pool environments.
